International Association for the Study of Traditional Asian Medicine has been quite active in the field of Asian medicine to bring together the communities active in the field of indigenous systems of medicine to share the views and experiences.

Prof. A. L. Basham (Australia), Prof. Charles Leslie (USA), Prof. Paul Unschuld (Germany), Prof. Francis Zimmermann (France), Prof. Lawrence Conrad (USA), Prof. Waltraud Ernst (UK), Prof. Volker Scheid (UK) and Prof. Dr. Geoffrey Samuel (UK) representing different countries have been the past presidents and Prof. Dr. Angelika Messner is the present president. Following Australia (1979) it has conducted international conferences in Indonesia, India, Japan, Germany, USA, Bhutan, South Korea and Kiel, Germany. X ICTAM (2019) will be held in Taipei. These international conferences and other meets were on specific themes focused on subjects of relevance for promotion of Asian medical systems.
